What a great weekend that was!
I didn't expect anything out of the ordinary; a Saturday on the market and a Sunday afternoon doing 1:1 tuition after a new workshop didn't book up. And yet I had a great time and it has changed the way I think about my work.
On Saturday some regular visitors stopped by to say hello and enjoyed the work, giving me a real sense of the network spreading out around me. A new face also found me and took an obvious relish in the work. Sadly I don't remember her exact words but the gist of it was that my (walk-in) stall was a haven of tranquility and beauty where her eyes could recharge and feast. Wow. I hadn't really considered before how just seeing and appreciating hand-crafted creative pieces could benefit a visitor to my stall, but I love that someone can get so much out of such a simple thing. I also love that it can give a mission to my work; spreading that recharge and appreciation.
Sunday was also rewarding, as I spent the afternoon with an overworked office worker, playingwith clay, getting dirty, helping her to build her understanding of the material, hew use of her hands, building skills and creative expression. Seeing other people happy and fulfilled in such a context turns out to be incredibly rewarding.
These generous people have given me a much expanded view of what my work can be, what I can offer the world, and I am feeling inspired!
