As you may have heard, I have been having some trouble with my shoulder for some time now. After 15 months of treatment it’s still not right and I have had to make some tough decisions.
While it’s recovering I’m not able to throw well enough or consistently enough to rely on, and it seems that throwing on the potter’s wheel was part of the cause of the problem.
I have enjoyed making these pieces and know that people have enjoyed using them, so this was a hard decision made with regret, but an essential one none-the-less as I have to prioritise basic health and a phsyically sustainable practice.
Apologies to any of you who were hoping that this work would be available in the longer term. I do still have some stock left and the very last pieces available are listed in my shop should you want a final opportunity to add to your collection. There will also be a special sale for newsletter subscribers coming up soon - so if you’d like to take advantage of that do subscribe now!
Thanks to all of you who have supported me this work over the last 6 years, every bit of feedback and sale however small are all much appreciated.
For me the silver lining of all this has been the time it has given me to explore new inspirations and return to hand-biulding techniques which I am now enjoying very much. I will continue to make and develop my ideas and share that journey here on the website and on social media. So far it’s proving quite different to the work you were previously familiar with, but I hope you’ll find it interesting even so.
PS. I’m due to see the surgeon shortly and am also seeing a chiropractor and doing feldenkrais, so the shoulder is well looked after. I’m told it will recover full strength and movement eventually, it’s just a case of keeping it moving as much as possible for now until it does recover - whenever that is, and learning from the incident to take better care of my body moving forward.
